If you're going to be in Nikko from April to November, experience a 40-minute dynamic boat ride gliding through the Kinugawa River. The beautiful gorge carved by mother nature offers beautiful scenery that may include cherry blossoms, wisteria or maple, depending on the time of year. Be prepared to remove your shoes before being seated on tatami mats. A free shuttle bus is offered from Kinugawa Onsen Ropeway or take a 3-minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. For advance bookings & rates, visit here for Japanese and here for English.

Stacy: Yes, this river cruise is definitely on the tranquil side. Thanks for your recommendation on rafting. Sounds like a great trip for next summer!

I have been on the rafting and canyoning tour of this section of the river a couple of times. Now I have a child, I was thinking this type of boat may be suitable. Thank you for your review, and I am appreciative that you mentioned that children over the age of 4 are welcome. This tour seems perfect for the older, less active adults or young children. I recommend you try rafting/canyoning next time! http://www.naoc-jp.com/
