If you want to avoid the busy places in Nikko, the Yunoko Lake area is a nice place to take a deep breath. It is just a few minutes from the Yumoto-onsen Spa. A slow, leisurely hike around the lake is a great way to relax before or after a hot onsen bath. There is a one-hour trail around the lake with a great view of the mountains. The water is crystal clear, the autumn leaves are nice and colorful, and the lake is calm and quiet. Trout fishing is permitted from May 1st to September 30th.

In autumn, the answer is yes. Especially the bus is always full. But once you get there, you are not annoyed with crowd.

Yes, it was. Megan, if you have a chance to go here, it's easy to take a bus from JR/ Tobu Nikko Station.

These pictures are stunning! Such beauty, like the reeds blowing in the breeze, inspired artists from the Imperial Court to Rinpa art like Kamisakka Sekka. It lifted my spirits!
