Temple fourteen in the Shikoku Ohenro pilgrimage is also known as the Temple of Everlasting Peace. One famous pilgrimage legend is that a wife carried her crippled husband five times around the entire circuit, praying for a cure. By the sixth time, the pair swore that they would commit suicide if their prayers weren’t answered. However, when they reached Temple 14, the husband was healed and he and his wife walked the remainder of the pilgrimage together. It is also said that if a diabetic prays and drinks the boiled leaves of the yew tree beside the Main Hall, they will be cured. To get there, catch a Yorii-naka bound bus from Tokushima station and get off at the Jorakuji-mae stop. From there it is about a 5 minute walk.

The temple’s rocky uneven grounds are unique to the pilgrimage. It is said that if a diabetic prays and drinks the boiled leaves of the yew tree beside the Main Hall, they will be cured.
