After leaving Temple No. 19, the pilgrim path once again heads towards the mountains. Travel upstream of the Katsuura River and the village of Ikuhina comes into view. From here the mountain road begins. The rolling mountain path is not so tough, but there are a repeating number of up-and-downs resembling capital "M" shapes. There are various peaks to these rolling hills where you will find the 20th and 21st temples.
On the road connecting the Kakurin-ji Temple path and Kamo Path is a "choishi" signpost left behind from the latter half of the 1300s, which seems to indicate this is the oldest part of the ancient path.
