Tokyo is more than just its skyscrapers though. It is a city of history and people. Shimbashi, a salaryman district in Minato City, features a number of rustic izakaya where Tokyoites come together after workdays. While Shibuya Crossing represents the big picture of Tokyo, smaller districts, like Shimbashi, provide glimpses into its residents’ lives. Although presently being demolished, the iconic Nakagin Capsule Tower in Chuo City encapsulates this sense of community and something we had to visit before too late.
