Bistro Chick in Azabujuban

A cozy western style restaurant near Azabujuban station

One of my friends recently invited me and a few other people to a restaurant called Bistro Chick, which I did not know anything about beforehand. As I am always up for new culinary experiences, I did not hesitate to try out this restaurant. It is a good thing that I did.

When I entered the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was its size, which was rather small. This meant that my friend had called to reserve seats for us, which is probably a good idea for a group exceeding three people. Despite this, when we entered I was quickly intrigued by the interior of the restaurant, which looked to be quite stylish. Seeing this, I expected the food to be of a high price and quality, but was pleasantly surprised to find that I could get a meal and drink set for 1200 yen. Part of this meal set included a delicious salad starter, and bread.

When the main meal arrived, I was honestly quite surprised. I am usually quite a heavy eater, and I did not think that what I ordered would fill me up. I ordered a beef meal, which was quite different from how I imagined it. The menu said only that it was beef in red wine with honey sauce, so I expected some kind of steak with sauce. What I got was surprising, and more delicious than what I had imagined, as I got a pan with what was some of the softest meat I have had in a long time. I suppose would compare the texture to that of pulled pork. It also turned out that the meal was more than filling, and I found myself only just able to contain exactly what I had ordered.

My friends, who ordered chicken meals, and pasta, had the same experience and we were all surprised at what we got for our money. My lunch there is easily in the top five of food experiences I have had in restaurants in Japan this trip. This is despite that the fact that the food was not especially Japanese-style.

The one thing that I found strange, which may just be a cultural difference, was that our drinks arrived around the time we were finishing off our meals. By drinks, I mean coffee, or juice. The staff served water from the very beginning, which I still find surprising when I compare it to the restaurant culture of other countries.

Overall, if you find yourself around Azabujuban station, do not hesitate to see if there are available seats at Bistro Chick. I know that I was not disappointed there.

I feel like I've walked past this place a lot when I've been in Azabujuban, now I'm disappointed that I've never gone in. One day, hopefully!
