Romance in Ukiyo-e 2022

A limited-time exhibition at the Ota Memorial Museum

Venue: Ōta Memorial Museum of Art When: Jan 5th - Jan 30th 2022

The ukiyo-e artform depicts the concept of love in a wide variety of ways. There are pieces that showcase pure love and adultery, the drama and sorrow that can accompany love, and even love that didn't work out. A special exhibition at the Ota Memorial Museum of Art will focus on love-themed works, with items on display from famous ukiyo-e artists including Harunobu Suzuki, Katsukawa Shunshō, and Kunisada Utagawa to name just a few.

Adult admission to the exhibition is priced at ¥ 800, and no advance reservations are required.

Getting there

The Ota Memorial Museum of Art is located approximately six minutes on foot from the JR Harajuku Station (Yamanote Line) or two minutes on foot from the Tokyo Metro Meiji-jingumae Station (Chiyoda Line and Fukutoshin Line).

Do note that there is no dedicated parking lot for the museum, and private parking can be expensive in the area - so public transportation is advised.

Been there before, a fairly small but cute museum with beautiful works of art and an interesting souvenir shop. Highly recommend!
