A special exhibition taking place at Shibuya's Shoto Museum of Art looks at the joy and beauty of the demitasse cup. Literally meaning "half cup" in French, close to 400 of these beautiful coffee cups will be displayed at the event in a range of different designs, from bold to delicate, and traditional to modern. There will also be a focus on European pieces which were influenced by Japanese artistic style in the 19th Century.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 800 yen, and no advance reservations are required.

Getting there

The Shoto Museum of Art is located approximately five minutes on foot from Shinsen station, which is served by the Keio Inokashira Line. Alternatively, the venue is around 15 minutes on foot from Shibuya Station, which is served by numerous lines including the JR Yamanote Line, and the Tokyo Metro Ginza, Fukutoshin, and Hanzomon lines.

No on-site parking is available, so it is recommended to use public transport wherever possible.

In the USA I saw private collection of tea cups, and it was really impressive. I'd be afraid to drink from very beautiful cup and not to break it. :)

I've always admired different pottery, especially things like tea and coffee cups that I use everyday None of mine are this fancy, though! 😆
