Tokyo Midtown Starlight Garden

280,000 LEDs in 'Starlight Garden' light show

Venue: Tokyo Midtown When: Nov 26th - Dec 25th 2019 , 12:00am - 11:59pm

One evening at the beginning of December my friend and I headed for Tokyo Midtown to see the Christmas illuminations there. Walking along chilly streets with trees were festooned with lights, we arrived at a park were thousands of blue LEDs had been laid on the ground to create a sea of light called the Starlight Garden. 280,000 digitally controlled LEDs have been set up to deliver a light show lasting about five minutes, complete with music. It was beautiful, inspiring and romantic!

I came to Japan in 2003 to teach English. I lived in Shiga prefecture for one year, and it still holds a special place in my heart. I lived in Kyoto for nine years, then moved to Machida, Tokyo in 2014 after meeting my Japanese partner. I love to take photos, and my Japan in Pictures Facebook page has some 40,000 followers. I have been the Regional Partner for Yamanashi Prefecture since 2014. I am enjoying exploring the prefectures around Tokyo (I like to get off the beaten track), and I hope the photos and stories I share will encourage more people to discover this wonderful country.

You are right Olga, it does look like a witch hat. I was fascinated by the effect of the lights on this sculpture.

Thank you Natalia - but it's much better in real life!
