Japan's home of government, law and business, Chiyoda City Ward features museums and galleries that are a study in accessible high end quality. Featuring locations directly related to the Imperial family, wealthy business magnates, and the Tokyo government, the works to be found in the city are all open to the public. Here is an introduction to some of the museums and galleries of Chiyoda and how to reach them.

Idemitsu Museum of Arts

Home to over 15,000 East Asian works, including Japanese National Treasures and Cultural Properties, the Idemitsu Museum of Arts is quality defined. Gathered over the lifetime of museum benefactor, the late Sazo Idemitsu, the works here include calligraphy, paintings and ceramics. The JPY1200 admission fee reflects the high end atmosphere.

A 1-minute walk from Yurakucho Station on the JR Yamanote Line or Hibiya Station on the Hibiya Line.

Museum of Imperial Collections

Featuring works sourced from the private collection of Japan's Imperial family, the understated and elegant Museum of Imperial Collections is home to some of the finest pieces of art to be found in the world. With almost ten thousand works to choose from, the museum's free admission makes this one of the best options in Tokyo.

A 2-minute walk from Otemachi Station on the Chiyoda Line.

National Museum of Modern Art

The National Museum of Modern Art focuses on contemporary art with works representing Japan's modern emergence from centuries of feudalism during the turbulent Meiji period up until now. Also housing a film archive and craft centre, the museum's usual JPY500 admission is waived on the first Sunday of each month.

A 3-minute walk from Takebashi Station on the Tozai Line.

Tokyo Station Gallery

Located within Tokyo Station itself, the amazing Tokyo Station Gallery holds around five exhibitions each year have as been doing for over thirty years. With its tendency to focus on modern art, the gallery has worked wonders in helping turn Tokyo Station into a tourist in an of itself. Expect an admission fee of around JPY1100.

Great spots to take in culture and art. When you look at the admission, it's a steal. You get to see world-class treasures.
