Located less than 10 minutes outside of the city center, the Himitsukichi Akari Cafe is highly recommended for anyone driving in the Sumoto area of Awajishima. An old factory building has been renovated into a hip American-style hangout. A haven for Harley Davidson enthusiasts like the owner, this is a great place to relax over coffee, lunch, a homemade dessert, dinner, or just a cold beer.

Although only in Japanese, the menu does have some photos.

There is ample parking in front of the building.

Once inside, go through this door to enter the cafe.

Enter and 'time-slip' into a 50's American diner

Stop by from 9am-11am, Monday through Friday, for ¥200 fresh-brewed coffee.

Although mainly serving tasty hamburgers, steaks, and curry, there are a number of other items on the menu.

The beef curry lunch, with a small side salad

Stop by in the afternoon for homemade cake with tea or coffee, starting at ¥600

A lunch special during my visit - a thick miso-based soup filled with pork and tasty vegetables

Wine and a variety of beer cost ¥350 - ¥500. Whiskey, bourbon, and other alcoholic beverages are also available.

Items are for sale in the other half of the building.
