One of the few western houses left in Yokohama
Berrick Hall is one of the few western residences remaining from the old foreign settlement in Yokohama. Many of the foreign people who succeeded in business 150 years ago lived in gorgeous houses and enjoyed their life in Japan. We can catch a glimpse of their lives at the Yamate History Archives, Yamate Park and the Gaiety Theater, but many of houses eventually disappeared. Berrick Hall is the most sophisticated one of those still existing. It was built after the Great Kanto Earthquake, and designed by J.H. Morgan. It also survived the bombings of WWII.
