The very first place to dine in the last village on Okinawa's famed Route 58 is hidden inside the Oku Yanbaru no Sato recreation area once entering Oku. Look for the river valley and grassy area once descending from the winding mountainous road. The Kunigami Inobuta shokudou is inside the first concrete structure on the right once the road straightens out in direction and elevation. The name represents the Kunigami District which Okinawa's wide open north is administratively referred to, and wild pigs, which are abundant in the area. I stopped by while sightseeing during the recent holidays and sampled the Okinawa soba made with wild pig's meat. The meat was a tiny bit more firm that regular pork, but otherwise was just as delicious as anything I might find at a place like Gon Soba much further south on 58. The restaurant only accepts yen and is open daily from 10:00 ~ 20:00.

Kunigami Inobuta
An Oku shokudou serving wild pig
Community writer
Kunigami Inobuta is a small shokudou located inside the Oku Yanbaru no Sato recreation center building just off of Route 58 when entering Oku
Wild pig used in the dishes seemed similar to regular pork but seemed just a bit tougher
This sign simply reads "shokudou" across the top and "restaurant" on the bottom
A very nice little restaurant although it's very simple in appearance and decor
The dining area
The menu contains Okinawa Soba, pork cutlet, chicken curry and other chicken and wild pig dishes
