Secluded and Serene: Zamami Island

The village is very laid back but this also results in views like this

The village revolves mainly around scuba diving

There are two ferries that service Zamami and Aka from Naha: the Queen Zamami 3 and Ferry Zamami

A message for the visitors: please cover up your tattoos

Zamami island is one of the world’s foremost diving locations

There is only 1 police officer on the island, although their official website states there has probably never been a crime

Zamami Village is cute but not very well kept

In less than an hour away from the main island of Okinawa, one can find the beautiful yet quiet Zamami Island.

The sea is extremely clear and the area has a very beachy vibe. The locals are very friendly, too. Only 800 people live full time on the island and there are just a few restaurants and hotels. If you are looking for a place to really get away from hustle and bustle of Okinawa and you are not planning on a luxury vacation, Zamami Island is the place to be.

I spent Christmas there some years ago. I snorkeled in a wet suit and it's like a giant aquarium. I waded at the beach. It wasn't cold. Awesome place!
