A lot of attention is given to spring in Japan with the blooming of the plum trees, then the sakura cherry blossoms and scores of other wonderful spring flowers. The colour palette in autumn is different, but equally wonderful and bright, especially with winter coming.
During my visit to Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture in late October I had expected to see the leaves in their autumn colours but to my surprise I came across many blooming flowers like the rose, cosmos, chrysanthemum, and water lily, as well a number of plants that were unknown to me. It was interesting to discover that some kinds of cherry blossoms bloom twice a year. I discovered the same with the azalea that usually blooms in May.
Along with flowers, I also saw trees with mature persimmons, orange berries and purple ones, as well as beautiful grasses with fluffy brushes. The autumn colour palette - with its reds, oranges, violets and pinks - is simply gorgeous!
