Skypark Utsunomiya offers beginning paragliding lessons, tandem flights with certified instructors, and certification courses to receive a license to fly. We opted for the half day course which included a beginner's lesson and a tandem flight for ¥12,500. The instructors are very friendly and knowledgeable, and most of them can speak a little English. Catch some air!

Paragliding in Tochigi

Nothing between me and the ground except wind and sky

Look for this sign from the road

Home base, office, and lecture space

Short video lecture before the lesson

The training ground

Getting set up

Getting into the harness and gear and clipping on the canopy

Learning how to fill the canopy and how to run

Catching the first bit of air

Hauling the gear back up the hill for another go

Touching down

Glorified lawnmower ride to the summit

Our driver checking to see we hadn't tumbled out of the cart and down the mountain

Getting ready for takeoff

Airborne - just after takeoff

The earth is a long way down

I did get a bit of motion sickness but it wasn't too bad. My bf's guide did the "jet coaster" spinning thing. I could see it happening and pointed it out to my guide and said "if you do that, I'll puke." So he didn't!
I would be up to try again if the situation presented itself, maybe somewhere with different scenery. I heard there are some out by Mt. Fuji!

You lucked out and got perfect weather for your first reserved day? Looks great. Did you feel any motion sickness? Going to try again? For me, once is enough. I also had a great experience at Skypark.
