Located minutes from Musashi-Koyama Station in Meguro, Heimat Cafe is a perfect location for book and coffee lovers. Heimat prides itself in feeding both the body and mind. With a delicious menu and library, the cafe does just that.

Their library holds over 1000 books, as well as a regular garage sale at the front of the cafe. Although the shelves are mostly filled with Japanese books, there is a small English section. With a constant turnover to keep new books on the shelves, the titles are always changing. At the garage sale, books in all types of languages are only 300 yen each. After scouring over used bookstores across Tokyo, these are by far the cheapest English books I have found. Although a small collection, the garage sale is a regular feature of Heimat.

In addition to their regular garage sale, on the first Sunday of every month, different companies are featured at Heimat and sell their own books and DVDs at discounted prices. At the beginning of August, Tokyo Design Center setup shop in front of Heimat to sell their books on architecture, design, landscape, and related fields. Get there early to avoid the crowd and have your pick through the low prices.

As for the food and drinks, Heimat functions as a breakfast area in the morning, a cafe in the afternoon, and a restaurant/bar in the evening. They serve an array of food like burgers, curry, Jambalaya, and taco rice to name a few. There are herbal teas, espressos, and flavored lattes, as well as an array of sodas and juices. Heimat has an extensive alcohol menu with imported beer from around the world, cider, cocktails, and even Pimm’s from the UK.

Heimat Cafe also hosts events, most recently on August 4th a Save the Animals event, and on August 5th a live music concert of traditional Bulgarian music. Check their calendar online to see what is planned for the month. Feel free to contact Heimat to hold your own event. They are always looking for something new to do.

When an event isn't being held, Heimat is a great place to pull out your laptop and work quietly with a cup of coffee. With electrical outlets for your computers or phones, your table quickly becomes your productive workstation. But whatever the occasion, Heimat Cafe is always buzzing with something to do alone or with friends.
