This beauty of a coffee shop is hidden away down the backstreets of Shibuya, being a very short five-minute walk from Omotesando Metro Station. The exact address is 4-15-3 Jingu-mae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; and it’s best to plug these into Google Maps before setting off, it can be a little tricky to find the place first time. The backstreet location makes for a much quieter scene that is enhanced when you step through the archway into a very cozy garden.

Omotesando Koffee is set inside a traditional Japanese house, the garden having a very natural beauty that continues through the shoji doors into a more modern, chic coffee shop interior, giving a strong sense of professionalism. Due to the size of the shop there’s no seating available inside, which is actually a bonus as it keeps the line of customers constantly flowing making for a very short waiting time. If you do really want to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere, which I recommend, there are a couple of benches in the garden to settle down and drink.

A lot of locals seem to stop off for their regular drinks, but in no way does this make it a bad scene for tourists. The staff are very nice and polite and seem to have a way of making you feel like you fit in just right. The guy serving me even knew a bit of English, so a small conversation worked very nicely, making it easy to ask for some photographs. Whilst making the coffee you can see the concentration and skill the barista has, effortlessly working the machine.

My iced cappuccino turned out looking wonderful, tasting delicious and being extremely refreshing. You can buy a small cake to have with your drink and, if you get there earlier on, they have bread available as well. I think next time I’ll be getting there when they open! This is definitely a place for any coffee fan around.

The buzz and energy of Tokyo is phenomenal, but it’s still great to have that little escape to the quiet and calm; Omotesando Koffee, like the Atago Jinja Shrine, provides a whole different world separate from the city.

Opening times are 10:00 – 19:00 throughout the week. The address and contact information can be found on the side panel.
