Cherry Blossoms at Negoro-ji

One of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots

Located in the northern part of Wakayama Prefecture, Negoro-ji Temple is one of the region's most beautiful spots during spring. The temple features on the list of Japan's Top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots, and it's a fascinating destination for history buffs, too. The temple was founded all the way back in 1132, and the pagoda on the grounds is listed as a National Treasure.

As for the cherry blossoms, the temple precinct itself is home to around 3000 trees, and the surrounding area bumps that up to around 7000, ensuring that there's more than enough natural beauty to go around. The best time to visit to catch the trees in bloom tends to be around late March to early April.

Adult admission to the grounds is priced at 500 yen.

Getting there

Negoro-ji Temple is located around 15 minutes drive from the Wakayama Kita Interchange on the Hanwa Expressway.

For those who are visiting via public transport, head to Izumi-Sunagawa Station on the JR Hanwa Line. From there, take the Wakayama bus bound for Iwade Station via Naga Kinki University for 16 minutes, and get off at the Negoro-ji stop.
