Chausuyama Shibazakura Season

An annual event celebrating these pretty springtime blooms

The annual Chausuyama Shibazakura Festival in Aichi showcases 400,000 shibazakura in shades of pink, white, and purple, and many visitors take advantage of a unique way to enjoy them - from above, by chairlift! The festival also typically has food stalls, music performances, and even nighttime illuminations so visitors can appreciate the flowers after dark.

Like any flower festival, the official dates can be subject to change depending on the blooming conditions. It's advisable to check the official website before your visit to ensure the shibazakura will be at their best. For an estimate, previous years have been around the first week of May through to the first week of June.

Admission to the event is free, although do bring some yen if you plan to take a chairlift ride or buy food.

Getting there

As Chausuyama is quite remote, driving is the only real option to get there. It's around 2 hours from the Tomei Expressway's Nagoya IC, and on-site parking is available for up to 1000 vehicles. Parking is charged at 700 yen per vehicle during shibazakura season.

They're even better live, so it's one of the 'must see' things in Japan, to my taste. :) ;)
