Often, planetariums are catered to young children and end up being popular destinations for activities like school field trips. The Konica Minolta Planetaria Yokohama does things a little differently, though, and brings some more adult flair to the planetarium experience. Designed to emulate a glamping experience under the starry night sky, the venue provides a unique way to appreciate the beauty of our galaxy.
Part of what makes the venue so special is that it uses state of the art technology called DYNAVISION®-LED in its projections. The technology involves self-luminous LED elements, and they provide a more realistic and immersive experience than standard projections do. Visitors to Planetaria Yokohama also have the ability to reserve premium "planet seats" (only 4 available), which allow guests to lie back and feel as if they're floating through outer space.
If you're after a bite to eat when you visit, be sure to check out the on-site Café Planetaria. There, you'll find a range of tasty and aesthetically pleasing goodies – there are galaxy inspired donuts, planet themed ice creams, a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, and plenty more. The full menu lineup for the café can be explored before your visit here.
For those not in the Yokohama area, Konica Minolta also operates three other planetariums in Tokyo (you can read about the Tokyo Solamachi location on Japan Travel here) and one in Nagoya. More details on those venues can be found on the Konica Minolta website.
