Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort to Open in 2023

Construction has begun on this beachside accommodation option

Earlier this year, the Okinawan island of Miyakojima won a TripAdvisor Traveler's Choice award in the emerging destinations category, which is determined in part by increases in searches and saved destinations in a region. There's no doubting that once travel resumes that this part of Japan will see a surge in visitor numbers, and the Hilton group have already got their eye on this. Construction is currently underway on the Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort, which is scheduled to open in the early summer of 2023.

The resort will be located around 7 kilometers from Miyako Airport (around 15 minutes driving time), or around 13 kilometers from Shimojishima Airport (around 25 minutes driving time), making it ultra-convenient for travelers visiting from other parts of Japan. There will be a total of 329 guest rooms in varying sizes, suiting everything from romantic couples getaways to family vacations with the whole crew in tow. There will also be meeting rooms incorporated into the resort's design, opening it up to those who are traveling for business purposes as well.

At the idyllic beachfront property, guests will also have access to three different outdoor pools, an indoor pool and fitness center, a spa, and a kids club. As for the dining options, there will be all-day in room dining, an Italian restaurant, a lobby bar, and a rooftop lounge.

Getting there

The flight time to Miyako Airport (MMY) from Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) is around 3 hours and 25 minutes. From Osaka's Kansai Airport (KIX) the flight time is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, and from Naha Airport (OKA) it's a short 55 minutes in the air.

Taxis and various car rental agencies are available at the airport.

I'm an expat who has lived abroad for almost a decade, including 7 years in Japan. I've also visited 44 of 47 prefectures and hope to get to the last three someday! I'm particularly fond of exploring off the beaten path destinations, gardens, and tea houses, and have a real interest in Japan's growing vegan scene.

You can get Miyako-island through two airports. The one is MMY, only for Japanese domestic network, and the another is SHI (Shimoji-Shima Airports) which connects to not only HND, NRT, KIX which is Japanese domestic routs, too, but also now Hong Kong airport!!!

SHI is expected to connect to Taiwan, China, etc ... in the future. SHI is placed for international airport in Japan.

Miyako-island is now popular because Rosewood hotels get decided to open resorts at Miyako-island for their first hotel in Japan.

I also heard that in the future international space-ship airport is built at Okinawan Miyako-island!!!!

That's great you can fly directly from various airports.

What's to see on the smaller island with the airport? I'm dreaming of my next Okinawa getaway now...

I love the ocean! But it's still only a dream for me.

Okinawa is lovely, I'd personally like to go back and explore more when things settle down and travel gets back to normal. I like being by the water, it's very calming!
