Longtime burrito favorite Frijoles has some new competition in the Azabu Juban area – a recently opened eatery called Burri.

For those familiar with the American restaurant Chipotle, the menu at Burri will come as no surprise. Burritos with four main ingredients are offered – chicken, pork, steak and beans (veggie). If a burrito is a bit too much, you can also choose soft tacos in the same four flavors. Most of the burritos are under ¥900, but the steak option will set you back ¥1150. Tacos range from ¥390-¥600. You can even lose the wrap and simply go with the burrito bowl. On the menu under "sides", there are tortilla chips with either salsa or guacamole as well as chicken and cheese quesadillas.

I personally opted for the chicken burrito, customizing it to include guacamole but cutting out the cheese and sour cream. Along with the standard beans, rice and shredded lettuce, my wrap also included a salsa that I found quite spicy (but my tolerance is notably weak) and the option to add an even hotter sauce (very glad I declined). The burrito was a good size, packed full and wrapped tightly enough that I managed to eat it without the paper napkin provided and didn’t make too much of a mess. The website notes that the tortillas are sourced from Okinawa and while I didn’t notice anything remarkably unique about them, they were easily pliable and didn’t break easily or get soggy from all the ingredients.

I opted for water only, and a staff member made sure we had a full pitcher on our table during our entire meal. However, for a a little over ¥200, you can add a drink to you meal (options being mostly sodas and pink lemonade). If you're feeling frisky, ask the staff about their tequila-based cocktails

Due to its relatively new arrival and possibly to its hidden location, the shop was nearly empty on my recent Saturday visit. Our party of 8 was able to be accommodated at the restaurant’s center tables, though there were also booths left on the edges of the room for any additional customers.

Did someone say, "Burrito"? I was always on the lookout for some good Mexican food (and cheeseburgers) in Japan. Great find, Mandy!

This sure beats the Taco Bell in Tokyo!

I haven't been to Taco Bell yet, is it so bad?

A bit expensive but probably worth it! All hail Mexican food!

I haven't been back to Frijoles in awhile or to the other new burrito joint (Guzman y Gomez) in Tokyo so I can't comment on the price comparison, but at least I walked away feeling pretty full.
