TeamLab Planets is a destination that has earned significant international acclaim, being ranked among the world’s top museums in Google's Year in Search 2023 and winning Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2023 at the World Travel Awards. Its ability to blend art, technology, and human interaction has made it a favorite among tourists from around the world, and the venue is set to unveil a major expansion on January 22nd, 2025, significantly enhancing the interactive and creative experiences for its visitors.
The museum’s expansion will increase its footprint by 1.5 times, making way for over 10 new artworks and entirely new spaces designed to push the boundaries of digital art and immersive experiences.
The addition of the Athletic Forest brings a new dimension to the museum. This large-scale, interactive space encourages visitors to engage physically, challenging them to use their bodies to explore a complex, three-dimensional world. It’s designed to enhance spatial awareness and three-dimensional thinking, which are important skills tied to creativity and innovation. As visitors navigate through the intricate space, they will discover new ways of perceiving their surroundings, using their bodies to interact with the artwork in meaningful ways.
The Catch and Collect Extinct Forest invites visitors to engage in an educational and exploratory adventure. Using their smartphones, visitors can "catch" and observe extinct animals within the forest. This interactive learning space encourages curiosity and discovery, allowing participants to create their own collection guides and learn more about species that once roamed the earth. It's a fun yet educational experience that appeals to both children and adults, fostering an environment of continuous learning.
Meanwhile, Learn! Future Park offers a collaborative approach to creativity. Designed as an amusement park based on the concept of co-creation, this space encourages visitors to come together to build and shape a dynamic and evolving world. It offers a glimpse into the future of learning, where participants can contribute their own ideas to shape the ever-changing artwork around them.
One of the most exciting additions to this expanded experience is the introduction of the Sketch Factory. In this section, visitors can take the artwork they’ve created—whether through drawing or interactive installations—and transform it into real-world products like badges, T-shirts, tote bags, and paper crafts. The Sketch Factory makes the creative experience tangible by allowing visitors to bring home a personalized piece of the art they’ve experienced, further deepening their connection to the exhibits.
As part of the museum’s dedication to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all, the Athletic Forest, Catch and Collect Extinct Forest, and Learn! Future Park will require visitors to wear comfortable shoes. This ensures a smooth and safe journey through the interactive, physically demanding spaces, contrasting with the barefoot experience in the museum’s existing Water and Garden sections.
