Katsujo Soho and Fujinuma Noboru are Living National Treasures in the bamboo craft realm, and they both live in Tochigi Prefecture. A special exhibition at the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts serves to highlight the high standard of bamboo craft in this region of Japan, with around 100 pieces on display from active Tochigi-based artisans.

The event is scheduled to run from October 31st through to December 20th 2020, and adult admission is 900 yen.

Getting there

The Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts is located around 15 minutes by bus from the JR Utsunomiya Station. From the station, take the Kanto Bus bound for Sakushin-Gakuin & Komanyu until you reach the Sakuradori-Jumonji stop. The museum is two minutes on foot from there.

For those driving to the venue, take the Kanuma IC from the Tohoku Expressway. The museum is around a 20 minute drive from the expressway exit, and free parking is available on-site for around 80 vehicles.
