Naruto

Naruto is located in Tokushima Prefecture, and is where visitors may see its biggest draw, the majestic Naruto whirlpools. The city lends its name to the titular character in the Naruto manga and anime series.

The Naruto whirlpools are created from the difference in water levels from the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and the speed of water moving in and out from the two water bodies. This view can be seen either from a boat or the Onaruto Bridge.

The Onaruto Bridge has a main span of 876m, making it one of the largest suspension bridges in the world. Visitors can head to the Uzunomichi Walkway and be mesmerized by the swirling patterns through either a side or floor window. On the other hand, a boat ride would enable visitors to get up close and personal with the whirlpools.

Another attraction is the Otsuka Museum of Art, where over a thousand full-sized ceramic replicas of artwork such as the Sistine Chapel are on display.

Naruto is also where Ryozenji Temple is. This is the start of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, a trip to visit 88 temples around Shikoku associated with Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism.
