Over the past 18 months, the popularity of virtual tours and events has exploded as a result of the coronavirus pandemic restricting travel. One such event is the Step into Cat Art Exhibition which will be taking place online from September 17th until March 31st. The event is the brainchild of artist Shu Yamamoto, who created an interactive experience that can be enjoyed from anywhere.
The virtual space is displayed in four different zones — the Sistine Chapel, the Indoor Cat Painting Exhibition Hall, the Outdoor Cat Painting Exhibition Hall, and the Neko Gallery. Each focuses on different styles of cat-themed virtual art, from cat-inspired versions of the Mona Lisa and Girl with a Pearl Earring, right through to cat ukiyo-e style prints.
Admission to the virtual event is priced at 799 yen, and accessing it will require downloading the Engage Virtual Communications app. Tickets can be arranged via Lawson online here, and upon registration an email will be sent out with a 16-digit code to connect to the virtual space.
